Ever since someone in a Pink
Skirt sold me their MG Cruzer buggy, I've had to
change the way things are when I go buggying. My old
Peter Lynn Bigfoot would fit inside the bed of my truck and
rested on the tailgate (I did not have the bed cover at the
time).
The
Cruzer was too wide to fit inside the bed. I had
to remove both rear wheels to make it fit and then I left
the tailgate down with the wheel sticking out the back.
|
Even though I have a pickup,
I still want the back to carry an assortment of other things
like luggage, camping gear, coolers, and Lots of
Kites for my outings. Hard to do if you take 3-5
people in the cab and then throw in the Cruzer.
Steven
at VTT saw my predicament when he was up for a local buggy
session recently and sent me one of his buggy racks. |
 |
 |
One of the first things I
noticed with the rack was the build quality. Steven
has done an excellent job and the buggy rack is well thought out.
The package arrived in 2 boxes
that were in great shape. Each piece was wrapped in
bubble wrap to protect them from UPS tormenting them too
much. Everything inside was without a scratch and it
was nicely painted. |
One of the things you will notice
is the use of bolts where the pieces join and one also
underneath the hitch as shown above. As you might
suspect, the unit would want to tend to rattle a bit
driving down the road as your typical hitch isn't very
tight. By turning the bolts in, you will snug up
your rack significantly in all directions preventing
unnecessary rattles as you drive down the road.
This also will keep your more quiet as passengers won't
be complaining about rattling for 450 miles as you head to
DeadBird in Galveston. |
 |
| On the Right you
will notice the cradle the holds the rear axle. It is tapered to accomodate most buggies out there.
The Cruzer has some pretty large axles but they seat nicely
and don't move at all. Steven has lined the seat with
a thick piece of rubber to prevent slipping and limit damage
to either the rack or your buggy from unnecessary moving
around. |
 |
On the Top of the
rack you will notice a pivoting swing arm that will adjust
to different size buggies. The cruzer being a
race buggy, it is longer than most and Steven called
me to ask some measurements first so he could make sure his
would fit. It does fit quite well.
I used
a strap to temporarily hold the buggy in place though it sat
there for a few minutes while I went and got the strap in
the garage; even with a down slope to the driveway. I contribute
that to the rubber mentioned previously. It just
doesn't seem to want to slip.
I think I will use a
ratcheting type strap to get it really snug when the time
comes. I will also get a couple straps to tie the
wheel straight for the ride to my destination. |

 |
 |
| As you can see in the
photos above, Steven has put reflective tape on the
unit for safety considerations. Nicely done I
might add. Even the sides of the unit have
reflective tape. When taking it for a test run,
I had some heavy velcro straps that I wrapped the axle and
rack pieces together to prevent up and down movement. |

 |
I think this is
about the best item I have added to my truck. It will
save me countless hours putting the wheels on and taking
them off again. It frees up my entire truck bed and I
can lock stuff inside of it now without worries of it
walking off or falling out because of the tailgate having to
be down all the time.
You can
EMAIL Me if you are interested in a Rack. I am now
taking orders. I will get a few measurements
from you and your order will be processed in the order it
was received. This is CUSTOM made and
at $299 it is a great deal!
