Peter Lynn Viper 5.3m Review
by Big Mike  8/29/2009

After Recently getting a buggy,  I was in pursuit of a larger kite that could get the job done of dragging my big carcass across rough fields in that buggy.  The 3.0m kites I had at the time just weren't enough even in 10-15mph winds.   I decided to try the 5.3m Peter Lynn Viper.

The Viper came in a bag along with Kite Killers,  lines,  Ground Stake, and handles.  The bag you can read more about on my Bag Review.  The Ground Stake you can find a little about it on my Beamer v Hornet Review.

As you can see,  then handles for the Viper are long.  That is a 11 inch foot in the picture and the handles easily exceed that length.  The lines are quality.  Red used for power and blue used for brakes.  They come one color on each winder,  so you have to seperate them before first flight.

The Viper lays out beautifully on the ground.  I like the design very much.  I do wish the design were carried to the front side like some of their other kites,  perhaps in future versions of the Viper.

Flying:  This is one nice Kite!  It leaps off the ground and is smooth in every respect.  Turns are quick and crisp,  especially when brake input is added.  The Viper will hang right on the edge of the window and doesn't have any bad tendancies like luffing or curling.

Power transition is smooth.  It absorbs gusts very well and was a real joy to fly.  It isn't a lifty kite,  but my friend Bret had some fun trying to jump with it during our tryout.  He would have been better off with a Twister 5.6,  but I think judging by the pictures in the below sequences,  some helmet / pads would be suggested.

Synopsis:  Get one!  Its a great kite.  We flew with it in winds ranging from 1.7 mph (yes, it got up) to 17 mph over two different days for this review.  The winds were all over the place both days.  It just does not quit!

Below are some pictures of Bret jumping.  I'm glad he wants to do it,  as I enjoy watching.   I had my hand on the camera lens this time,  too much of this and I may need to keep my hand over the 911 button.
