SkyDog SDT 2.8 Review

SkyDog SDT 2.8m Review

I recently began carrying SkgDog kites and was anxious to do a review on their Traction kites.  So I ordered up a SDT 2.8m kite to try out.
Right out of the box,  the Skydog was different than nearly all Power kites I carry.  Instead of the typical backpack,  this kite came in a very nicely made satule with an over the shoulder strap.  Much like a laptop case.
The kite resides in a center section which sinches closed and the accessories were in another section of the bag.  I like this design as it keeps the stuff that could possible rub on your kite during transit away from your kite.
A bonus is the place for a business card on the inside of the  snap lock closingflap.

Accessories that come with your kite are fairly standard with a few exceptions:
The lines are very HQ typical with one exception.  SkyDog does everyone a favor with Yellow brake lines!   Thank you thank you.  The black HQ lines are impossible to see when you are setting up your kite.
The Ground stake is pretty standard as are the kite killers.
One of the most unique features are aluminum handles.  These are definitely a step up over the other manufacturers and they have a great feel to them.

Laid out and ready to go,  the SDT 2.8 is a very smart looking kite.  The colors and design are unique and very attractive on the front side of the kite.   BUT...

On the backside is a different story...or no story at all.  This blank canvas is begging for something.   A little color or if nothing else,  that really groovy SkyDog Logo across the back.

However,  the one advantage to the blank canvas on the back is that the light shines through the back fabric easily and really makes the front pop out at you with its vibrance.   An unexpected surprise.   It made what already looked good on the ground,  look even better in the air.

Fly ing:  I ended up adjusting the brake lines all the way in to get the amount of brake I felt the kite needed.  Once adjusted,  the kite flew beautifully.   It will fly right up to the edge of the window and then just sit there waiting for its next command.
This is definitely a beginner level kite.  It flies great and is not overly powerful.  It is smooth flying and responds well to inputs from you.  There are no bad habits with this kite.
I would not hesitate to offer this kite as a recommendation for someone looking to start kiting.  It hangs with its competitors and the quality is there in every regard.  I have yet to fly a SkyDog kite that did not surprise me with its quality and smooth predictability.
